The mining industry has been the most lucrative and extractive industry that contributed immensely to the socio- economic development of Sierra Leone. Minerals made up 79 percent of total export revenue with diamonds accounting for 46 percent of export. The main minerals mined in Sierra Leone are Coltan, Rutile, Zircon, Ilmenite, Bauxite, Iron ore, Tin, Diamond and Gold.
